Medical School to develop kiosks for underserved
communities University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey (UMDNJ-NJMS), the FOCUS Community
Health Center Newark Public Library
BanDeMar and the NJ Medical School (UMDNJ) have
teamed to improve health literacy,
self-assessment, compliance, and access to health
care organizations by deploying wireless
multimedia kiosks that exploit recent advances in
user modeling, Internet appliances, and media.
This program distinguishes itself from other
outreach initiatives with its (1) on-line
implementation of a patient self regulation model
from the Rutgers Center for the Study of Health
Beliefs and Behavior, (2) appeal of its
high-definition culturally appropriate audiovisual
content, (3) assisted teleconference access to
health care providers, and (4) pervasive operation
of wireless kiosks without requiring technical
literacy of the user or on-site information
technology.
